La giornata internazionale dello studente ha una lunga storia alle spalle di proteste e rivendicazioni per un’istruzione migliore, pari diritti e democrazia. Anche quest’anno vogliamo farci sentire, non solo per ricordare la storia della giornata, anche per alzare la nostra voce e creare consapevolezza sui temi e sulle problematiche che gli studenti e le studentesse incontrano al giorno d’oggi, non solo in Europa, ma in tutto il mondo!

L’Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU) e l’European Students’ Union (ESU) lavorano per promuovere i diritti delle studentesse e degli studenti in Europa ogni giorno.

I sistemi di istruzione, il modo in cui gli studenti vengono ascoltati e le battaglie che vengono combattute sono diverse in ogni parte d’Europa. Ancora, nel 2013, gli studenti vivono differenze abissali tra le nazioni in Europa quando si parla di accessibilità dell’istruzione. I servizi che vengono offri dalle istituzioni scolastiche, i costi dell’istruzione e le forme di supporto garantite per gli studenti sono lontanissime dall’essere omogenee in Europa. Nonostante i bisogni siano diversi però, l’idea di un’istruzione libera, democratica, egualitaria e inclusiva – per la quale l’OBESSU e l’ESU insieme alle loro organizzazioni membro combattono quotidianamente – rimane la stessa in ogni parte del mondo.

I diritti degli studenti come l’accesso all’istruzione non devono mai essere dati per scontati, anche quando sembrano essere garantiti. Infatti non possiamo dimenticare gli studenti e le studentesse che hanno combattuto duramente nel passato, come non possiamo dimenticare tutte e tutti coloro che combattono con gli stessi obiettivi al giorno d’oggi. I diritti e la loro implementazione devono diventare la base necessaria per cominciare a riconsiderare l’istruzione in Europa in generale.

Non possiamo dimenticare le lotte vinte in passato, ma non vogliamo che il 17 novembre venga visto come una giornata di commemorazione, ma come una giornata d’azione, cosa che troviamo fondamentale in tempi di austerità. Non dobbiamo mai stancarci di ripetere ai decisori politici e alla società che il valore dell’istruzione è collettivo. L’istruzione é la chiave per il cambiamento e l’uguaglianza che sarà raggiunta solo con la garanzia di un’istruzione di qualità per tutte e tutti.

Per questi motivi, l’OBESSU e l’ESU invitano TE ad attivarti per il 17 novembre e a creare coscienza in te e negli altri circa la storia degli studenti e dei movimenti studenteschi, perché la tua voce sia ascoltata e per dimostrare siamo capaci di combattere per i nostri diritti. Immagina un giorno nel quale gli studenti e le studentesse delle scuole superiori e delle università di tutta Europa lottano insieme per un futuro migliore.

The International Students‘ Day has a long history of students protests and uprisings for a better education, equal rights and democracy. This year we also want to stand up on this day and not only remember the history but also claim our voices and raise awareness on issues students face today, not only in Europe but all around the world!

The Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU) and the European Students’ Union (ESU) work on promoting students rights all over Europe, every day.

The educational systems, the way young people are listened to and the things that are fought for vary around different parts of Europe. Yet in 2013, students are experiencing deep differences when it comes to access and provision of education within the countries of Europe. The services provided by educational institutions, the cost of education and the forms of support guaranteed to students are far from being homogenous in Europe. Although the needs are different, the idea of free, democratic, equal, inclusive education- that OBESSU and ESU and their member organisations are fighting for- remains the same.

Students and school students’ rights as well as access to education should never be taken for granted, even when they are ensured for the moment. We cannot forget student activists who fought for education in the past; nor can we forget about all the young people who work today towards the same objectives. Students’ rights and their effective implementation must become the basis to reconsider education in Europe.

We cannot forget the struggles and the improvements students achieved in the past, we want however, 17 November not to be seen only as a day of commemoration but as a day of action. This stands especially in times of austerity. We must not tire of reminding decision makers and society of the value that education holds for all of us! Education is the key to change and equality which will be achieved with free access to quality education ensured to all.

Therefore, OBESSU and ESU invite YOU to take action on 17 November 2013 to raise awareness about the harsh history of student and school student activism, to make our voice heard on current issues and to show how students still fight for their rights. Imagine a day, when students and school students all over Europe come together in common action to fight for a brighter future.

ESU invites you to submit your video with your own claims for student or educational related issues by 13 November.
